Blame for Brexit

Responding to reports of Angela Merkel’s reaction to the PM’s proposed Brexit deal, Liberal Democrat Shadow Foreign Secretary, Chuka Umunna said: “It is obvious that Boris Johnson’s Conservatives are trying to shift the blame for their own arrogant refusal to negotiate or suggest workable options. It is clear for all to see that the Conservatives have made a total mess of Brexit and Boris Johnson is intent on pushing the UK closer to a catastrophic no-deal Brexit.

The blame for this mess does not lie with Merkel. It lies on the shoulders of the Conservatives.“

Boris Johnson and the Tory government have no interest in UK citizens living abroad. Despite the assurances given during the referendum campaign, the supporters of Brexit have shown no interest in respecting citizen‘s rights. They have made it challenging for EU citizens to remain in the UK and this will be reflected in how other EU countries treat Britons living abroad, said the Liberal Democrats in Europe. They have clear failed to fulfill the manifesto promise to give UK citizens a vote for life, despite the support that the private members bill received from all parties in Parliament.

The Liberal Democrats are clear that the best deal for the UK is the one we have now, inside the EU. That is why we will keep fighting to stop Brexit.
